Requirement for career progress

Has there ever been a time that you felt overwhelmed by life’s struggles and hurts, especially in relation to your career progress? If yes, you are not alone. Today I want to suggest a much taken-for-granted yet very simple approach to overcoming all your struggles and hurts, especially your financial woes. It is a lasting solution that works 100% of the time, always, for all and sundry. It worked for me; so I wager it will work for you too. It is perhaps the greatest success principle of all time! Here it is: Make yourself valuable. What? Is it that simple Ray? Emphatically yes, very simple. Read on.

This approach simply requires that you change certain ways of thinking and doing things in whatever activity you may be involved in as your career. It is all about making yourself an expert at what you do. The greatest achievers in this world, be they leaders, researchers, sportsmen and women, artists and tech innovators…rose to the top by making themselves valuable; they made themselves experts in their chosen career paths.

Take a deep look at yourself and ask how much of an expert you are in your field. I am not talking about you claiming to be say, an IT expert when all you know is Windows and Microsoft Office. If there is a top job position in your field for example, what are the chances that your name may come up as a valuable person suitable for the position? If you are a footballer and a struggling club needs a player who can turn things around, can your name come up as that valuable player? See what I mean?

Try this

How on earth can you make yourself valuable? First, never have the mindset that you have ‘arrived’! Never say you know enough. You have to keep getting better and better at what you do. Find and refine your gift; never stop reading, keep studying and learning; keep company with the right friends; watch the right TV shows and movies; have relevant conversations with relevant persons, make yourself a man or woman of value. It is not enough to study and qualify as a doctor, engineer, accountant, teacher, IT professional and so on.

A piece of paper called a certificate doesn’t necessarily make you valuable. You should study to ‘become’ a valuable person, NOT to ‘obtain’ a qualification. Qualifying as a medical doctor for example does not immediately make you an expert surgeon. See that? (I believe this might be the reason why there are lots of ‘qualified’ but jobless people; many qualified persons are not experts in their fields). Now think about it. Have you ever deliberately made any attempts to make yourself an expert in that your career? Get my point?

Lessons from The Book

Daniel, one of the wisest men that ever lived became a leader (Daniel 2:48) in a foreign land where he was meant to be a slave. He made himself valuable through books (Daniel 9:2). 2 Timothy 2:15 clearly tells you to study (read books or learn from the right persons) to make yourself valuable. Some disciples of Jesus who were “…unlearned and ignorant…” became men of great value (Acts 4:13) because they kept company with and learned from the Lord. Today, 2000 years later we are still talking about them. If you become a valuable footballer like Lionel Messi, clubs will look for you and money will run after you. If you are Lewis Hamilton, racing car companies and tons of money will come searching for you. See?

Most people cry and say they are looking for money; many others lament and say they want to succeed. No and no! It’s time to change that narrative. Money and opportunities will come knocking on your door if you choose to make yourself valuable. So, stop looking for money and stop looking for success. Instead, make yourself valuable then, money and success will locate you.

It is that simple and it is the truth. What are you going to do? The world awaits your impact. So…
