Quote of the week: There is a nagging #voice, constantly telling you to ‘take it easy’, to ‘give up and try something else’, that ‘you’re not good enough’…hey, #kill that voice (with your purpose) before it kills your #destiny.#RolandRayKangong
Existing purposefully
Today, I want us to look at the very reason for your existence. You weren’t born because your parents wanted a child. In other words, you were born for a reason. It is encapsulated in a gift, and given to you by the Creator. That reason calls for you to live with intention.
And, you have only ONE life to ‘become’ who you were born to be. That’s the reality. Therefore, how you live your only life matters. For example, in your job, career, work or whatever you have chosen to do with your life, there is a need to live your life purposefully. So, it is imperative that you find your purpose by finding, refining and using your gift.
Living purposefully
What are you passionate about and good at? That thing you are absolutely good at; that activity you do with very little effort, is the reason you are on earth. It is the reason you were born. And, it is your purpose. Immerse yourself in that passion; do not simply follow your passion as the world lightly puts it.
You need to stop trying to become some personality created by other people’s opinions, subjects learned at school, or a desire to please someone close to you. Explore your imagination. Examine your dominant thoughts. You only have so much time before you die. Get it? Get up and start moving!
By the way, where have you been putting all your effort and energy? On your job or in your personal development? This is critical. If your effort is in the job, the day you lose that job or the day your skill becomes unnecessary, guess what? You will also lose your value and become unnecessary to society. Work on yourself! The world needs you, as you, the real you (defined by your gift); not as some title bestowed on you by societal norms. Do you get what am saying?
Who, not what…
Your life is about who you are, not what you are. Most of the times, jobs and career paths describe your what, while your purpose describes your who. You see, there is conditioning that takes place and directs the course of your life; this happens as you grow from childhood to adulthood. The conditioning leads to certain ways of thinking and acting. Hence you may hear someone ask a friend if they are still renting; if they have bought a car or if they’re still not married at a certain age. That, is a lot of noise.
Yes. Noise! Society has these philosophies that might make you feel like a failure if you have not conformed to those ‘norms’. You need to exercise caution in your thinking. The noise even exists within your own mind, and is probably the reason your thinking is clouded most of the time. It is the reason why a gifted footballer may get a job at a department store as a cashier and feel fulfilled in life. And that, because his society may have conditioned him to believe that whosoever gets a job has made it in life. Get that?
Therefore, it is vitally important to find the thin line between your job and purpose. Dare to be different, by being the real you; not by conforming to the noise around you. There are depressed persons, tired of life because they are failing to conform to societal norms. Romans 12:2 clearly advises not to be conformed to the world. Read that verse in your Bible, by yourself. Can’t you see that trying to conform to the world (societal norms) and ignoring your gift is messing up your life? The acceptable and perfect will of God for you, according to the above Bible verse, is your purpose. Think about it. What is the cause of your stress and tension? Jobbing versus living your purpose, that’s the cause. They are opposed to each other. Find the balance. Can you?
Q&A
How have you been spending your time? And, how many books, for example, did you read during the lockdown? Why are you surprised with the struggle to get to your desires and goals? How strong is your desire to succeed? When given an opportunity, even at a job, how do you use it? How committed are you to anything you put your mind on to achieve? Can you walk away from a project/job/activity if you realize positively that it is not for you, or would you hang on for the money?
The course of your life is entirely in your hands. Spending your time, which is your life, with purpose, is a sure recipe for a fulfilled existence.
Do this…
Ask yourself this question: what can I do daily and happily even if everyone thinks I am a jerk doing it? Remember this is about who you ought to become, as identified by your gift. Find it, and you will be more than willing to pay the price to succeed, as I shared in this post. No one’s opinion will matter, especially if it is a voice of discouragement. Therefore, identify your gift. It will guide you to your purpose. That could possibly happen at your job as already mentioned. Then you will be living purposefully.
The world is waiting for your impact. What are you going to do?
