Some thoughts

Hello there. Do you at some point wonder why everything you have tried to achieve appears elusive and things aren’t always working out for you? There is a secret, as old as time, that can change your undesirable circumstances for good. In this post, I will be sharing with you ways to renew your mind. It is a very potent method that all great men that ever lived have used to attain their phenomenal successes. I will mention briefly the nature of the mind, then show you extremely powerful yet simple day-to-day actions and ways of thinking that are guaranteed to ultimately transform you into a brand new rich, successful and happy personality.

Your minds

Let us be reminded that man (the human being) is a spirit, living in a physical body and having a soul. The soul is the seat of the mind – the conscious and subconscious minds.

The conscious mind is the thinking mind, where you turn over events, ponder matters and make decisions that lead to corresponding actions in the physical. On the other hand, the subconscious mind is not a thinking mind; it is rather like a computer hard drive. It stores all important information that runs your life, in much the same way as the computer hard drive stores important files that run the computer.

But, where does the subconscious mind get the important information that runs your life from? In Proverbs 23:7a, it is written that as a man thinks in his heart, his life turns out exactly according to his thoughts. The word heart is a Hebrew word that means the “subconscious mind”. King Solomon of old, the wisest man that ever lived, was indeed saying that what you think about over and over in your conscious mind eventually gets transferred/deposited into the subconscious mind, which is powerful enough to manifest the deposited thoughts as life experiences in the physical.

Internal and external conflicts

Dominant thoughts such as the internal and external conflicts discussed in my previous post, get deposited or downloaded into your subconscious mind which is the control centre of your existence. The thoughts that you constantly think about all the time, whether it is pornography, booze, partying, hatred, sex, violence, helping others and doing good etc., get downloaded into your subconscious, your heart, and your life BECOMES those thoughts. In other words, if for example you are perpetually thinking thoughts of hatred, you’ll become a bitter person incapable of loving; you may even hate your own spouse, children, family members, colleagues etc. Simply put, your circumstances are created by the thoughts you think all the time.

In the words of Paul the apostle, Romans 12:2 clearly suggests that in order to experience transformation (characterized by a departure from destructive thinking and manifesting a changed life), you need to renew your mind.

Renewing your mind

Someone may tell you that renewing your mind will pay you huge dividends (success, happiness, joy, great relationships, love, financial success etc.). The question therefore is, how exactly do you allow that renewal of the mind to happen? Here are a few ways to renew your mind:

1. Change your regular thoughts through a process I call ‘thought replacement’. For instance, replace the thought of hate towards someone who wronged you with thoughts of forgiveness and love. Speak out loud to yourself if you need to. When anger wells up as the hate thought surfaces in your mind, say something like: I refuse to be angry! I refuse to hate Mr X or Miss Y. I choose forgiveness and love etc. Replace bad thoughts with good thoughts over and over, consciously, for as long as it takes – hours, days, weeks, years; until the unwanted thoughts disappear and are replaced with the good thoughts. Be relentless in your efforts!

2. Use new information to transform the old mindset. New information introduces new ideas and new ways of thinking. As the new information becomes the dominant stuff you think and talk about all the time, a gradual replacement of old information is birthed. New information may come from positive, inspirational and transformational books, new friends, the Bible, selected movies, selected magazines, sermons, podcasts, new conversations with new friends e.g. talking about success, making money, having good relationships etc. as opposed to discussing how bad the government and economy are or how hard life has become; becoming part of a Mastermind group where you discuss and believe in human potential and its possibilities. The list goes on and on.

3. Just as you feed your body with good food for health and growth, the information you feed your mind will make possible the renewal of your mind, which will in turn determine the health and growth of many areas of your life, be it business, career or dreams. Be careful what information you feed your mind with! Feeding your mind with negative information, just like eating bad food, will invite poor health, sickness and even death – of your dreams, career, business, relationships etc.

Look at this

4. Renewing the mind is a process. Thoughts that have dominated your mind and life for the past decades are just not going to melt away and be replaced with a single new and good thought. You must be wiling to stick it out because moments will come that you are going to experience frustration, your old negative thoughts re-appearing powerfully, anger, self-pity and a lot more negative emotions. Be willing to stay strong and refuse any form of discouragement until you experience your new life. This is not a theoretical thing because when your life starts getting better, you will know; you won’t need anyone to tell you that things are turning around for good.

5. Be intentional. Renewing the mind is hard, deliberate work. You must constantly think about what you are thinking about; in other words, monitor your thoughts. Discard your regular 20-year-old thought patterns and replace with new thoughts as suggested in (1) and (2) above. Do not even think about giving up. When you give up, you’re not only letting yourself down, you’re letting all your loved ones down.

Do this too

6. Use your imagination! See one of my previous posts titled “Imagination is everything”. If you consciously and deliberately make up your mind to not give up, it won’t be long before you see everything working in your favor, even where it seemed impossible in the past.

7. Teach yourself to pray and/or meditate, irrespective of your religious inclination. Like I mentioned earlier in this post, man is a spiritual being therefore, ignoring the spiritual component of your being may be one huge reason for delayed success (see my next post on spirituality).

How are you intending to go about all of these things? Leave a comment below; sharing your experience may provide a ‘missing link’ for someone’s breakthrough out there.
